Welcome to Lausanne, a city of arts and entertainment, which rises from the shores of Lake Geneva towards its hills, undulating between historical and contemporary monuments.

Welcome to this region, where the gentle pace of life prevails and which invites you to take a stroll along the lake or through the vineyard terraces of Lavaux, with their breathtaking views of Lake Geneva and the Alps.

Visiting Lausanne

The old town, whose first monuments date back to the 13th century, is best explored on foot, from steep streets to welcoming squares.

The old town

The Lausanne Cathedral: Considered the largest and most beautiful Gothic building in Switzerland, Lausanne Cathedral majestically dominates the city and offers a unique view of the region (increased tenfold if you climb the 232 steps to the top of the tower). Perpetuating a 600-year-old tradition, the watchman shouts the time from the top of the tower every night between 10pm and 2am.

The Cathedral

From the City hill, the historic heart of Lausanne where the cathedral and the Saint-Maire castle are built, you can take the picturesque Escaliers du Marché to discover Palud Square. Depending on your mood, you can continue your walk towards Montbenon Esplanade to admire the panorama, make a stop in the modern and bustling Flon district, or head towards the Place Saint-François. The metro will take you to the lakeside at the port of Ouchy. The train will take you to the heart of the Lavaux in a few minutes.
